Gender Equity & Justice

gender equity & Justice

We examine how gender, culture, and colonial systems intersect to shape inequities, working toward more just and equitable futures.

Gender equity is central to health, well-being, self-determination, and justice. Indigenous women, girls, Two-Spirit, Indigiqueer, and gender-diverse peoples experience unique and intersecting forms of inequity shaped by colonial violence, Indigenous specific racism, discrimination, and gender-based violence. Our Gender Equity work is grounded in the Indigenous Gender-Based Analysis+ framework and focuses on supporting community-driven pathways toward gender justice and equity.

Intersectional Perspectives

This basket of work aims to address intersecting inequities related to sex, gender, and health, promoting social justice, equity, and optimal health outcomes for Indigenous women, girls, Two-Spirit, Indigiqueer, and gender-diverse peoples. Through decolonial, storytelling, and arts-based approaches, our research explores how these overlapping systems influence access to resources, safety, health care, and opportunities.

Supporting Indigenous Leadership

Indigenous women, girls, Two-Spirit, Indigiqueer, and gender-diverse peoples have long been leaders and held distinct roles in many of our Matriarchal communties, and at the forefront of movements for social change. Our work supports Matriarchal and Indigenous leadership in research, policy conversations, and community initiatives that aim to advance gender equity.

Building Change

By translating research into policy recommendations, partnerships, and community resources, this work contributes to broader efforts to address inequities and strengthen systems that support the rights and well-being of Indigenous women, girls, Two-Spirit, Indigiqueer, and gender-diverse peoples.
